After almost a month of combined lock-down and partial functionality, PlayStation Network is back up and running. The PSN went down for one last maintenance yesterday but is back after a rocky start today. I was not able to access the services due to an unknown error early today but since then have been able to connect and download the InFAMOUS 2 demo. Take note that the "Welcome Back" program is not in action yet. In the mean time, buy all the games and DLC you want. By Griff Hoffmann

Last night a media briefing took playing in Japan where Kaz Harai and other Sony execs unveiled a lineup of tablet products. The two tablets, dubbed S1 and S2, will feature the ability to play PlayStation One games.
PlayStation 3 has received a software update, v3.60, and among a few minor tweaks one of major significance snuck in. Alongside a security update and controller shutdown timer, Sony has included cloud save support. The catch is that it is only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers. Cloud save support is useful if you find yourself needing to transfer a save between two different PS3s. However, registering your account to a PS3 that is not owned by you is a breach of the Sony terms and services since it allows for game sharing (Now the PS3 that is not owned by you can play games you’ve purchased on their account). This does somewhat defeat the purpose of a cloud save if it can’t be accessed freely on other systems without legal hoops to jump through. If you do have multiple PS3s and hate transporting a USB stick around then this is a solution for you. Sony has also stated that copy protected saves can be transferred through the cloud service but have a 24 hour long cool down until they can be copied or uploaded again. Finally, the cloud save storage amount is a whopping 150 MB (1024 KB) which is roughly enough to hold one save. Though there are many caveats to this new feature it is very cool if it works for you. Hopefully, this is a small step into an increasingly more digital future for Sony systems. By Griff Hoffmann
Sony held the Sony Ericsson's MWC 2011 press event today and they finally revealed the PlayStation-inspired phone. Labeled the Xperia Play, this device uses Google's Android OS, is "PlayStation certified" whatever that means, and is on the Verizon Network. Which is a big head turner for me since Sony Ericsson devices are usually on the T Mobile network. Due out some time this March, the phone is said to be launching with 50 downloadable titles, the ability to play PSN games, and eventually be able to host original PlayStation titles. Sony's Kazuo Hirai has said that the phone will come pre-installed with a "legendary PS One title." I'm betting Final Fantasy VII or maybe Crash Bandicoot? The Xperia Play will also come with Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, and Tetris already on it. EA's FIFA series and the Android version of Dead Space are also said to be available at launch for download. The phone is capable of utilizing Epic's Unreal Engine. Sony is also partnering with Unity Technologies to bring their Unity Engine to the Xperia Play. Approximately 350,000 games exist that utilize this engine, and this tech would let those titles to be ported to the device. All this being said, Sony you have my attention for the moment. I'm interested in a hand-held gaming device that wouldn't require me to carry more stuff around. That being said I'm a little reluctant to get a phone that has no physical keyboard and if the N-Gage did anything it's made me wary of phones that try to play big boy games. Sony announced that the PSPgo will be receiving a 50 dollar price cut in North America. This goes for Japan as well but their drop is a little more sizable reducing the Japanese PSPgo to 207 American dollars or from 26,000 to 16,800 yen. Sony made this announcement after Nintendo stated that their handheld system, the 3DS, won't be out until next year. This was in no doubt to a move to capitalize on the holiday market while the new product isn't dominating the space.
