Wow! What! Funny story; a co-worker mentioned how they read a synopsis on marketing strategies that one of the items that was cited as a no-no was adding exclamation points to anything. They diminish the the importance of the factor being sold. So then the extrapolation is when writing single work useless phrases, throwing an exclamation point on the end doesn’t do anything. Maybe there is something to the uselessness of the exclamation point in American writing in that it only falls at the end thus changing the delivery of the sentence after it’s already over. Anyway, the “Wow! What!” waste of text was referencing how it been since July of 2013 since I wrote something that wasn’t a Game of the Year or Gift Guild. It’s unfortunate that I haven’t done any writing since then. Honestly, I haven’t done much on my site save post podcasts and videos. So here are the major changes that have taken place since mid 2013:
1. The podcast has taken a turn towards the not being on iTunes direction. Feedburner is dead and took my feed with it. What that means is that Boss Barrel Radio is also dead. Presently, I’ve been looking into cheap ways to save or relaunch the podcast. The best option is a relaunch. Over 150 episodes is a good run, and now, Geoff and Jamie have their own recording gear that allows for better quality. So maybe now is the time to change things up. If you are one of the tiny minority of people who have BBR in their feed still; thank you. Please join us as we explore something new and better in the near future.
2. Lots more videos, right? Well, maybe it’s not actually lots more. Gene and I have been putting work in on trying to create some funny content. Oh, also, my laptop died when we were making a Sonic video. I’ve been forced to learn how to use a PC again. This has been a struggle and also means I don’t have access to the tools I had before. No more Photoshop, Garageband, or easy capture software BUT… Now I can capture PC games and it’s super easy. No wonder people do that than trying to pull from original hardware. That won’t stop for me, though, but it does mean I can make video of PC only stuff like Star Wars: The Old Republic Online and Star Wars: Dark Forces. Huh, it’s almost like some big Star Wars thing happened semi-recently to make me interested in Star Wars again.
3. Jobs amiright. Work is demanding more than me than ever. And by that I mean I no longer can work as a temp playing my Nintendo 3DS on the clock anymore. Actually, I’ve done some cool stuff at my current employer and want to continue doing unsaid cool things. Writing has taken a back seat. But it doesn’t have to; so therefore…
4. I removed the landing page of www.bossbarrel.com. What does that have to do with a job? Well, actually a lot. The front page took a lot of work to maintain and also required Photoshop for the images. One is gone and the other is in limited quantities, now. To make matters worse, Yahoo Pipes does and the shitty RSS box tool expired or something. In short, the landing page very quickly became worthless. The new direction will be me using what was the news page to be making a post about what is new and therefore discarding the old landing page.
5. In order to make good on that plan, here has been what’s happening on the site: BBR is here and not on iTunes. Sorry. I’m working on it. It’s easier to listen too now since we dramatically reduced the length of the episodes. There are 4 videos so far. Two old games and two games that hit so many game of the year lists of last year. Plus one more Star Wars video I’ve been very lazily uploading.
That’s it for the updates. I’d like to get back to posting trailers and writing reviews, but all in due time. Job, house repairs, playing D&D (WHAT!?), and being a parent leave me less energy for writing. I will get back into it, though. Here to a great 2016 and a huge thanks to anyone reading this. You’re the best.
