After nearly three months from its North American launch, the Nintendo 3DS will be getting a much needed update. This update will be available to download through the device come June 6. The update will feature the opening of the online store Nintendo eShop and add an Internet Browser to the 3DS. To celebrate the update, Nintendo is offering Excitebike re-mastered in 3D for free. The game will be free to download until July 7. Other Virtual Console games will be available for purchase and play such as Super Mario Land, Radar Mission, and Alleyway. Nintendo also promises a method for transferring DSiWare purchases to the 3DS. Already existing DSi software will be in the eStore as well as more Virtual Console games and new re-mastered classics in the future. The other free download from the eShop is the Pokedex 3D. This piece of software will allow players to view Pokemon in 3D for the first time. It will also take advantage of the AR technology so the pocket monsters can, again for the first time, pose for 3D pictures on the stove or ottoman. More than 150 Pokemon from Black and White will make an appearance with sound and animation. Much like the game it stems from, the goal is to collect and trade all the Pokemon. The trading happens through SpotPass and collecting by scanning certain AR Markers Finally, the Internet Browser stands out by it's ability to process 3D images from certain websites. Makes sense having a 3D screen I guess. The browser can be accessed in the middle of game play by pausing the game and hitting the 'home' button. The game can be resumed after the browsing is down.
