This is the road leading to PS4
Then everything came true. Well not really, but Destructoid posted two pictures of what looked like a prototype PlayStation controller plugged into a beefy, unfamiliar dev kit. With a million different new controller mock up pictures floating around, something about this one set it apart. Maybe it was because it didn't look ridiculous and matched the rumored specs just enough to seem legit? Whatever it was, people were talking about Sony and not in worried tones anymore. Putting the tinfoil hat of conspiracy theorist on for a moment, even if Sony had orchestrated every leak, it was masterfully done.
Sony’s next step was not to drum up more excitement but to alleviate some cynical fears. A snarky thought had begun worming its way through several online communities that the event would merely be about the PS Vita. That fear was alleviated by an unforeseen Sony event late Sunday night. The build up to the web presentation was limited, but its purpose was to discuss the PS Vita and therefore assure that the Meeting 2013 in New York would be something grander. Even though the true purpose of the press conference was obvious, exciting news did come from it. Most notably, that the PS Vita received a price cut in Japan of 5,000 yen; roughly 50 dollars US. Final Fantasy X HD was shown running on the Vita and a few other semi anticipated games were given a little bit of the limelight. The lack of a Monster Hunter title weighed heavily on the presentation. All in all, the intentions were obvious as to why the Vita event was treated this way. It was a just another play by Sony to get ready for the event on Wednesday.

The lights come up after a little PlayStation history sizzle. Andrew House takes the stage and begins the Meeting 2013 emphasizing the player and evolution. He briefly mentions the PS Vita. House lays out Sony’s mission to deliver great content and tech and finally he says “this is the foundation for our next generation platform; PlayStation 4. Over the next couple of hours…” Wha-what? This is going to be a long show.
